The Daredevil: Born Again season 2 finale comes with a surprise character reveal, confirming another Marvel casting.
The character's arrival signals what's to come in season 3, which is currently filming in New York City.

Where Jessica Jones goes, Luke Cage typically follows. That is now officially the case with Daredevil: Born Again.
Mike Colter makes a grand return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the bulletproof Hero of Harlem in a brief but monumental scene in the season 2 finale, "The Southern Cross."
Colter marks the latest Defender from Marvel Television's era of Netflix shows to make a comeback, following Charlie Cox's Matt Murdock/Daredevil, Jon Bernthal's Frank Castle/Punisher, and Krysten Ritter's Jessica Jones. Season 2 signaled his impending arrival after introducing Danielle Cage, Jessica and Luke's daughter, and a storyline about Mr. Charles (Matthew Lillard) using superpowered individuals for off-the-books missions.
The family comes back together in the final moments of the finale, which also sees Jessica reopening Alias Investigations.

Luke's presence on Daredevil: Born Again comes after paparazzi photos leaked from the set of season 3. Colter previously signaled his return on the March 3 podcast episode for Inside of You, saying, "Now it's time."
"I've had discussions with Marvel," he said, "and I do think that it’s very, very likely that I will come back at some point, but I don't know when. But I think I will."

Dario Scardapane, the showrunner of Daredevil: Born Again who worked on Netflix's The Punisher, initially played coy on the matter. When asked by Entertainment Weekly if Jessica Jones' inclusion in season 2 was a signal of more Defenders casting to come, he said, "That's not really up to me. Jessica's with us because Jessica's awesome and you'll see in this story what that means. Did I dodge that good enough?"
Colter headlined the two-season Netflix series Luke Cage (2016-2018), about an ex-con with superhuman strength and impenetrable skin who protects the streets from criminals. The actor also made appearances on Jessica Jones (2015-2019) and The Defenders (2017).

That era of superhero television ended when Marvel Studios decided to produce programming for its own in-house streaming platform, Disney+. But now Born Again has turned into a family reunion between all these characters.
Ritter's return as Jessica Jones, the strongwoman P.I., in Daredevil: Born Again was announced months ahead of the season 2 premiere. Ms. Jones and Mr. Cage maintained a complicated but heated on-again, off-again relationship on the earlier shows (and in the comics). So her presence seemed to signal that she wasn't alone. Colter, after all, first debuted as Luke in Ritter's Marvel series on Netflix before headlining his own show.
This now leaves Finn Jones' Danny Rand/Iron Fist as the last remaining Defender of Hell's Kitchen from that Netflix age. Jones was spotted alongside Colter and Ritter on set of Born Again season 3, which is filming in New York City through July.
Jones previously expressed his readiness to return. "I’m very aware of the critiques of the character and my role in it," he said at a March 2025 anime convention. He was referring to whitewashing and white-savior criticisms of Netflix's Iron Fist. "My response to that is like, give me a f‑‑‑ing chance, man," he continued. "I'm here and I’m ready. I want to prove people wrong. So I would love to see that happen."
