- Nathan Fillion is the most-utilized actor in the DCU between 5 different projects.

- “I don’t know if I’m an anchor being,” he says. “I do think I am a *thread* being.”

- The actor comments on his *Lanterns* and *Mister Miracle* casting.

Is Nathan Fillion the “anchor being” of the DCU? It may feel like a desecration to use a Marvel term to denote a comic book character around which entire universes are built, but that does feel like the case with the man behind live-action Guy Gardner.

“I don’t know if I’m an anchor being,” Fillion tells ** when asked about this distinction. “I do think I am a *thread* being. The quilt of the DC universe is being assembled before us. We’re witnessing the pieces coming forth, and now we’re starting to see threads between those pieces tying them together. Guy Gardner is enjoying being one of those characters that is the backdrop to this universe. It affords some consistency.”

To date, Fillion remains the most-recurring actor in the entertainment slate from DC Studios, co-led by *James Gunn* and Peter Safran — the former being Fillion’s director on films like *Slither*, *Super*, and *Guardians of the Galaxy*.

The star made his debut in the DCU as Guy Gardner, the hot-headed Green Lantern of Earth with a pronounced bowl cut, in 2025’s *Superman*. He then reprised the character for a brief pop-in on HBO’s *Peacemaker* season 2. Next, he’ll be seen on the current season of *Lanterns*; he’s filming a role in *Superman* sequel *Man of Tomorrow*; and EW broke the news that he’ll voice the character in animated form for the forthcoming *Mister Miracle* series.

“The fact that people think to use him is fantastic,” Fillion reacts to his new status.

Fillion’s casting in *Mister Miracle*, in particular, feels like a throwback. The actor — also known for TV shows like *The Rookie*, *Castle*, and *Firefly* — voiced Hal Jordan, the more famous of Earth’s Green Lanterns, in various animated projects over the years, starting with 2011’s *Emerald Knights* movie.

“I remember, when I started out, thinking voiceovers would be a fantastic job,” Fillion says. “When it finally happened, I was so very, very excited. Now I’m at a point where I’m one of those guys who can record from home, if need be. I got a little studio in the back with the right equipment.”

Commenting on playing Guy Gardner across both live-action and animated projects, Fillion adds, “Anytime you get to spend time with a character, it fills out their history a little bit. I feel very fortunate. I don’t wanna say I feel a sense of ownership because I did not invent the character, I did not write the character, I didn’t design the costume. The hairpiece is fantastic. So many other people are responsible for this character. I feel like I’m leasing the character.”

He continues, “When you say Guy Gardner, you will always now say Nathan Fillion in that same breath. I can’t imagine that kind of good fortune.”

According to Fillion, the same bowl cut wig was used for both *Superman* and *Lanterns*, as they were filmed “pretty close together.” Now for *Man of Tomorrow*, “We the hairdo just a little bit,” he says.

*Lanterns* will premiere its second episode of the debut season this coming Sunday on HBO, while *Man of Tomorrow* will open in theaters July 9, 2027. A premiere for *Mister Miracle* hasn’t been revealed.
