Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's planned relocation to Britain later this month could be brief, with those close to the couple indicating they may remain for as little as six months.
Sources close to the Sussexes claimed the Duke and Duchess do not view the move as permanent.
"It'll be an extended period of time. It could be six months, it could be a year, it could be more. I don't think even they know yet," one source said.
Or, the couple could opt for another Commonwealth country.
"They might suddenly go, 'Why don't we try Canada for a while?' They love Canada. 'Why don't we try Australia?' It's one of the great things about having left the institution," the source continued to tell The Sunday Times.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will live in a private, non-royal property outside London.
Their children, Prince Archie, seven, and Princess Lilibet, five, are set to start school when the new academic year begins in September. The school's identity will not be made public.
Though Harry and Meghan had privately discussed a return to Britain for roughly two years, the final decision was taken only a week ago, once the children's school places were confirmed, it is understood.

"The stars aligned: it's perfect timing in terms of the children's schooling, there appeared to be a good acting opportunity here [for Meghan] and also the draw of family not just being closer to the King, but the Spencers, with whom Harry is very close," the source claimed.
The insider acknowledged that Harry and his brother are not on speaking terms, though the Duke maintains close ties with other members of the Royal Family.
A royal source described the relationship between Harry and William as "in cold storage and not coming out anytime soon."

The rift stems from accusations that Harry and Meghan made against the Prince of Wales, the Princess of Wales, the King, and Queen Camilla in the years following their 2020 departure from royal duties.
It was previously understood that Meghan was in talks to appear in the Netflix series The Gentlemen, created by her friend Guy Ritchie, as part of her return to British life. That prospect is now reported to have collapsed.
Royal author Tina Brown wrote on X: "I have heard that Meghan Markle's role in Guy Ritchie's Netflix series The Gentlemen is OFF. Public backlash was too fierce. This does not bode well for Meghan's acting comeback in the UK."
The development leaves uncertainty over what professional role the Duchess will pursue in Britain. The acting opportunity was cited by sources as a key factor behind the couple's decision to relocate, alongside the children's schooling and proximity to Harry's family.
