Kevin Kane weighed in on his SVU future after Thursday’s tense episode.

The actor confirmed that his character, Detective Terry Bruno, will be absent for at least an episode.

“I’m still showing up every day,” the actor added, when asked if an exit is in his future.

Did Law & Order: Special Victims Unit say goodbye to one of their own?

Kevin Kane’s Detective Terry Bruno was put on leave by Captain Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) during Thursday’s episode of SVU, after he became overly invested in the squad’s latest case. While Bruno’s taking a breather for now, that doesn’t mean it’s the end of his time on the long-running NBC series.

“You’ll definitely not see Bruno for an episode,” Kane told Us Weekly in an interview published after the Oct. 22 episode. “But it’s handled in the slow roll kind of way where you know he comes back.”

Kane also said there was no SVU exit in his future — as far as he knows, at least.

“If that were the case, you would know more than me,” the Life & Beth star continued. “That’s as far as I know. I’m still showing up every day.”

Kane first took on the role of Bruno, a former Bronx SVU detective who acted as a whistleblower against dirty NYPD cops, during season 24 in 2023.

While he didn’t share too many details, the actor noted there would be “an acknowledgement” of his brief break from the job. “It feels like 1,000 pounds, but he’s back and he’s here to help,” the actor continued. “Then slowly he gets acclimated back to the job.”

Kane told Us that he enjoyed getting to go head-to-head with Hargitay for the episode, even though it ended in his character getting benched. “He can’t help but watch out for her. There’s been things over the seasons, sometimes where it’s very little things written,” Kane said of Bruno’s relationship with Benson, reflecting on one specific moment from last season.

“She was speaking too much about something where she shouldn’t give that much information away. She might get herself in trouble. Bruno just grabs her and squeezes her arm a little bit to kind of wake her up,” he continued. “That is their relationship. Sometimes there’s a seniority that he has to stay under and respect. But I think what he says to her [this episode] is respecting that.”

As for a romantic relationship between the two characters, Kane isn’t so sure — but he’s not ruling it out.

“There’s a connection with them that I think maybe people read into because she’s the only one that’s ever believed him. She’s the only one that said to him, ‘I believe you. I’m going to help you.’” he added. “He helped her. She helped him solve the case that had been plaguing him. So there’s a connection there, and I think it leads through.”

Kane made it clear that “anybody” on the cast “should be so lucky” to become Hargitay’s onscreen love interest. “But that’s above my pay grade to figure that out,” he quipped. “There would be a lot of love and a lot of bullets. Let me explain something. No one would say no.”

New episodes of Law & Order: SVU premiere Thursdays on NBC at 9 p.m. ET.
