President Donald Trump enters the final weeks before the midterm elections with positive approval ratings in just eight states, according to the latest tracker that shows the president remains unpopular across much of the country.

The latest findings add to mounting evidence of Trump's political troubles as voters begin casting ballots. His approval ratings remain negative in key battlegrounds such as Texas and Michigan, creating fresh challenges for Republicans as they fight to keep control of Congress.

According to the latest Civiqs state-by-state tracker, Trump has a negative net approval rating in most states, including Texas (-21%), Michigan (-27%) and even historically Republican Kansas (-1%).

Trump's approval remains above water in Alabama, Arkansas, Idaho, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Utah, West Virginia and Wyoming, all states he carried in the past three presidential elections.

Wyoming is Trump's strongest state, with a net approval rating of +14%. Neighboring Montana and South Dakota are evenly divided, with 46% approving and 46% disapproving of his job performance.

With the midterms less than two weeks away, Trump's net approval rating remains negative in most states, with only a handful continuing to give him positive marks midway through his second term.

Trump's approval hits new lows

Several major polls released this week showed Trump's approval rating falling to record lows.

In the latest New York Times/Siena College poll, released Oct. 21, Trump's approval rating stood at 34%, the lowest recorded in the poll's tracking. A CNN/SSRS survey found his approval rating at a record-low 32%, down one point from his previous low in late September.

According to the New York Times, Trump's approval rating is the lowest for a president heading into a midterm election since Harry Truman's 33% rating in 1946.

Meanwhile, a Reuters/Ipsos poll released Oct 19, found 31% of Americans approved of Trump's job performance, the lowest level recorded by the pollster during either of his terms in office.

What do polling averages show?

While individual polls vary, the major polling averages point to the same conclusion: roughly six in 10 Americans disapprove of Trump's job performance.

The latest averages show:

RealClearPolitics (Oct. 22): 38.4% approve, 60.4% disapprove

The New York Times (Oct. 22): 36% approve, 61% disapprove

Silver Bulletin (Oct. 22): 36.5% approve, 60.5% disapprove
