Meghan Markle could reportedly face a “betrayal” by Princess Eugenie. According to royal sources, Eugenie is unlikely to risk her reputation by entering a public business collaboration with the Duchess of Sussex.
The 45-year-old duchess has been exploring working with Eugenie on a European project while expanding her commercial interests outside royal life, as reported by RadarOnline.
Was Meghan Markle Betrayed by Eugenie?
Prince Harry has always had a close relationship with his cousin Eugenie, who lives in Portugal with her husband Jack Brooksbank. The Sussexes reportedly bought a vacation home in the same area.
A source familiar with the situation explained the dynamic, saying, “Meghan may understandably see Eugenie as somebody with whom she has a genuine personal connection and who also understands the extraordinary pressures surrounding royal life”.
However, the source added that personal friendship is separate from a public commercial partnership. They noted that Eugenie has strong reasons to keep her private life separate from business, adding, “Her lack of support when the Sussexes come back to Britain is likely to be seen as a complete betrayal from Meghan’s point of view”.
Even though Meghan Markle has discussed potential European collaborations with Eugenie, insiders believe that expecting a public partnership could lead to disappointment, according to The Daily Telegraph.
Eugenie has remained close to the couple ever since they stepped down from royal duties in 2020. She even appeared in their Netflix documentary. But her current situation makes their business alliance much more complicated.
Her father, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, has faced years of intense public scrutiny over his past friendship with Jeffrey Epstein. Because of this, Eugenie and her sister Princess Beatrice have dealt with heavy media scrutiny.
A royal insider stated, “Eugenie has worked hard to maintain her own life while dealing with circumstances surrounding her father that she did not create”.

The insider also added that Eugenie does not want new headlines saying that she is taking sides in royal disputes or using her family ties for money.
They also noted that her private friendship with Meghan Markle can continue smoothly without turning into a business venture.
Meghan Markle’s Struggling Business Empire
A no from Princess Eugenie could be uncomfortable for Markle, who hoped that their personal connection might grow professionally.
Ever since the couple moved to California, Harry and Meghan have been a part of many commercial deals. Their multimillion-dollar Spotify deal ended in 2023, while their Netflix deal expanded as Markle developed her lifestyle brand. Meanwhile, the Sussexes have been trying to rebuild their strained royal relationships, especially Harry’s bond with his father, King Charles.
Another insider explained that if Eugenie declines a public deal, it would not mean their friendship is over. However, Meghan might still feel disappointed because Eugenie has been one of the most supportive family members.
The source further noted that the clear message is that family reconciliation is separate from commercial business.
Harry’s connection with Eugenie has remained warmer than his bond with other senior royals, like his brother, Prince William. However, as the reports state, for Eugenie, keeping that family bond private is currently the main priority instead of starting a public business together.
