New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani hopes Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce's wedding guests beat the heat.
The National Weather Service has issued an extreme heat warning for N.Y.C. beginning on Wednesday, July 1, and an extreme heat watch through the evening of Saturday, July 4. Within that timeframe, Swift and Kelce, both 36, are expected to tie the knot at Madison Square Garden.
During Mamdani's press conference preparing New Yorkers for extreme heat on Tuesday, June 30, a reporter asked him about the couple's upcoming wedding.
"Outlets are confirming that Taylor Swift's wedding is happening at MSG this Thursday and Friday. Anything you can share on that?" the reporter asked. "And to that point, should New Yorkers be aware of street closures that we saw during the Knicks games and watch parties and those types of things?"

Mamdani, 34, didn't sweat the question. With a cool smile, he responded, "My recommendation to all New Yorkers is to stay inside and stay cool. And if you happen to be getting married at Madison Square Garden, you will be staying inside and you will be staying cool. And I think it's a good example to set for the city at large."
The next day on Wednesday, July 1, the Democratic leader joked about Swift and Kelce's wedding again on X and Instagram for a public service announcement. He wrote, "Here's what you should know about the historic heat wave headed our way. Especially if you're (hypothetically) having your wedding at MSG this weekend."
"We are entering what could be the most extreme heat wave this city has seen in over a decade. It can hit 100 degrees, with temperatures feeling as hot as 112 and staying hot into the weekend," the mayor said in the video.
"We're ready, but we want to make sure you are too," he continued. "Especially if you're celebrating the World Cup or the Fourth of July, or renting out MSG to get married, hypothetically."

In the video and other recent heat-related posts on X, Mamdani urged New Yorkers to take the extreme heat seriously by avoiding strenuous activity and staying in air-conditioned spaces. He also said to be mindful of signs of heat stroke, which include confusion, dizziness, nausea and trouble breathing.
In a post on X on June 30, Mamdani wrote, "It takes an entire city to prepare for extreme weather, and that's exactly what we're doing. We've activated our Heat Emergency Plan ahead of tomorrow's heat wave, bringing every agency together to protect New Yorkers."

He continued, "Across the five boroughs, we're opening hundreds of cooling centers, deploying outreach teams and COOL vans, extending pool hours, and preparing for flash flooding. As temperatures rise, I urge every New Yorker to make a plan, stay informed, check on your neighbors, and spend time in air-conditioned spaces whenever possible. If we prepare early and look out for one another, we'll get through this together."
Temperatures in the Big Apple on Thursday and Friday are expected to reach and potentially exceed 100 degrees. If the forecast holds, it could mark the first time a three-digit temperature was recorded in Central Park since 2012, per NBC 4 New York.

Mamdani first mentioned Swift and Kelce's wedding during a June 15 press conference about city events happening over the Fourth of July weekend.
While discussing the NYPD's preparedness to provide a "safe experience" for the July 5 match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup at the New York New Jersey Stadium (MetLife Stadium) in East Rutherford, N.J., the mayor said, "We are the biggest city in the country. We are used to big events, and we are incredibly excited for this one. We know it coincides with the Knicks' Finals run. We know it coincides with July 4, America 250, Taylor Swift's wedding — all happening at the same time —and we are so excited to welcome the world here."
At the time, Mamdani said that he is not attending the ceremony, but wishes Swift and Kelce "a lovely wedding."
