The Prince of Wales, 44, joined Cate Blanchett, Hannah Waddingham, and conservationist Robert Irwin, all of whom are involved in The Earthshot Prize. Singer-songwriter Jorja Smith also appears on Friday’s show, which is pre-recorded.

Irwin, 23, serves as a global ambassador for the Earthshot Prize, an environmental prize awarded to five recipients each year. The Earthshot Prize was founded by William in 2020.

An Oct. 23 post shared on the Prince and Princess of Wales Instagram account included photos of William on the show alongside Norton, 63, and his fellow guests with the caption, “Joining the iconic red sofa for a very special @earthshotprize edition of the @thegrahamnortonshowofficial. During the show, the Prince of Wales discussed how The Earthshot Prize began.

“For many years I was hearing stories about environment issues and one thing that struck me was the negativity and doom which got me down,” the royal said. “I thought we could do something more powerful and more optimistic and the idea of an awards’ ceremony came about and we could talk about urgency and optimism together. It’s all about getting excited.”

“There are some amazing people out there doing things to protect the world,” William added. “We could really highlight what is being done and scale them to the next level to have more impact around the world.”

He recently launched his Children’s Earthshot ahead of his trip to India, where he will hold the annual prize night in Mumbai in November.

On Wednesday, Oct. 22, 15 finalists of the inaugural I CAN Earthshot Challenge were announced, celebrating young changemakers between the ages of 9 to 17 from across India who are coming up with practical answers to the issues their communities face. Winners will win a $2,000 grant to develop their ideas.
