Ronnie Wood recalled having jam sessions with Jeff Beck and Jimi Hendrix

"[Jimi] loved my bass playing so that was a feather in my cap," the Rolling Stones guitarist said of Hendrix

Wood was a member of the Jeff Beck Group

Ronnie Wood opened up about his time performing with Jeff Beck over the years.

In a video shared to his official YouTube channel in November, the Rolling Stones guitarist recalled how the Yardbirds musician encouraged him to play bass — and how he earned praise from Jimi Hendrix.

Wood, 78, detailed the road that led him to the Rolling Stones in the clip, and shared that it was Beck who initially encouraged him to play the bass.

He recalled how he initially began working with Beck in 1967 when the "Freeway Jam" artist left the Yardbirds and started the Jeff Beck Group.

After a gig at the 100 Club in London, Wood remembered Beck asking him if he’d “consider playing bass."

At the time, Wood said he told Beck, “‘I love a challenge. I don’t mind it.' So that’s when I went on to the bass.”

Wood then recalled that when he and Beck went to the U.S., Hendrix used to "come and jam with us."

"He used to say to Jeff, 'Hey Jeff let the bass player have a solo,' and he did that at the scene club [and] he did that at the open air concert in the park.

When Hendrix turned up at another event, he offered Wood the ultimate praise.

"He loved my bass playing, so that was a feather in my cap," says Wood.

He continued, "I ended up sharing a flat with him in Holland Park for a couple of weeks when we were early gigging,"

Wood called it "great fun."

In April 2025, it was revealed that the English rock group Faces, which was initially a supergroup featuring members of Small Faces and the Jeff Beck Group including Wood and Rod Stewart would be releasing their first album in 50 years.

In an interview with The Telegraph that month, drummer Kenney Jones revealed that a record of "about 11 tracks" from the band was on the way.

He told the publication that the album had been recorded at RAK Studios in London and said that musician/host Jools Holland will feature on one track.

"Not all of them are going to be right [for the album],” Jones, 77, said of the recorded songs at the time. “But most of them are good.
