WWE Hall of Famer Rob Van Dam has opened up about his bad experiences with WWE. RVD explained why he stopped trusting the company’s plans. He said WWE had broken enough promises over time. That made him wait before believing anything substantial would happen.

Rob Van Dam discusses WWE and what he views as broken promises

Speaking with Inside The Ropes, RVD discussed his WWE run. He became involved with several major names during that period as a part of a historic run. He also appeared in segments with Stephanie McMahon and Vince McMahon.

However, RVD said his experience made him skeptical. He explained that promises often did not become reality. RVD said, “You would think so.” He then explained why he became doubtful about WWE’s plans.

“Somehow my memory of that time period was such that even if I was totally crushing it and doing really well, whatever I was promised let me down enough to really not believe anything was going to happen until it happened.”

RVD said those frustrations were sometimes balanced by good moments. He eventually stopped paying much attention to everything. “People will talk about, do you know you beat this Kurt Angle and The Rock and this guy and that? And I’ll be like, I did not.”

RVD said he mainly remembered what WWE had promised. Those plans could then change without much warning. “What I remember is them talking about we’re gonna do this with you and this with you and then instead, you know, I’m putting Luther Reigns over.”

RVD admitted he had nothing personally against Reigns. However, the decision still bothered him at that time. “No offense to Luther Reigns, but I was so but he was he was known as not being a great wrestler.”

The situation became even more frustrating after returning to Japan. RVD had previously built an important part of his career there. He expected his WWE status to make that return special. He said, “Now I get to go back as a big WWE star. There’s a word for that. It’s called Senpai.”

However, wrestling Luther Reigns, among many other moments, instead made him angry. RVD said moments like that affected his trust. Those experiences also changed how RVD viewed big moments. He said he never had much time to simply enjoy them.

RVD said, “Because all that was always going on, I didn’t have time to mark out.” He explained that becoming a wrestler changed his perspective. Business quickly replaced the excitement of being a wrestling fan.

He added, “After I got into the business, I wasn’t allowed to be a mark; that was stripped from me right away, and it became all about business.” For RVD, those experiences changed his approach completely.
