Spider-Man: Brand New Day earned an impressive $39 million domestically $109 million globally in its fourth week in theaters.

The super-flick from director Destin Daniel Cretton and star Tom Holland is now poised to overtake Titanic at No. 5 in the top 5 all-time highest grossing films at the global box office.

The Odyssey tailed close behind this weekend, with Ridley Scott’s The Dog Stars set to challenge both when it premieres next weekend.

No one can touch James Cameron’s legacy at the box office. But Destin Daniel Cretton is poised to put a dent in it.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day, directed by Cretton and starring box office hall-of-famers Tom Holland and Zendaya, keeps on winning at home and abroad. The superheroic action-comedy raised $39 million domestically $109 million globally in its fourth weekend in theaters, earning it the No. 1 spot on both leaderboards, per box office tracker Rentrak.

The film’s total domestic gross now sits at $854.9 million — the highest of any release this year by nearly half a billion dollars — and globally it now boasts $2.22 billion. That means the film is just $44 million away from ousting Titanicfrom the spot it currently holds at the edge of the all-time global top 5.

Titanic is Cameron’s third film to be inducted into the global $2 billion club — a fitting feat for the man who created it. His Avatar was the first film to crack $2 billion at the global box office back in 2009, and it currently sits at No. 1 with $2,923 billion to its name.

Since then, Cameron directed its sequel, Avatar: The Way of Water, to the No. 3 spot with $2,334 billion, and Titanic added enough to its original, record-breaking haul of $1.8 billion from its 2012 3D re-release to secure the No. 5 spot at $2.264 billion. Since The Way of Water splashed to No. 3 in 2022, Cameron has dominated the top 5, directing a staggering 60 percent of all films at that coveted tier.

If Brand New Day performs anywhere near how well it did in week 4 (spoiler alert: it will), the film is poised to swap places with Titanic in a single week’s time. The film likely has enough juice to take over No. 4 from the Chinese animated epic Ne Zha 2, which earned $2.27 billion by the end of its 2025 release.

For four weeks, it has been nothing but Spider-Man, Odysseus, Spider-Man, Odysseus... and nothing’s changed this week. Christopher Nolan’s Homeric epic The Odysseyearned the No. 2 spot globally, again, with $87.5 million in its sixth week in theaters. At $1.44 billion, it is Nolan’s highest-grossing film at the global box office by a wide margin.

But domestically, the seafaring yarn slipped from No. 2 to No. 3 thanks to the harrowing handiwork of Insidious: Out of the Further. The sixth film in the paranormal horror franchise earned $25.3 million in its domestic premiere, besting The Odyssey’s $19.5 million week-6 haul.

Elsewhere, Jason Statham’s latest pew-pew thriller, Mutiny, opened to a disappointing $7.5 million considering its estimated budget of $40 million. The all-star comedy ensemble of Anna Faris, Michelle Buteau, Leslie Mann, and Isla Fisher fared better, opening Spa Weekend to $3 million on an estimated $20 million budget, adding another $2.2 million from international territories.

Next weekend, a new box office stalwart will contest Spidey and Odysseus for dominance.

Ridley Scott’s post-apocalyptic drama The Dog Stars packs serious star power in its leads, Jacob Elordi and Margaret Qualley, but it will also have to contend with the highly anticipated, formerly shelved Coyote vs. Acme and Barney-esque horror, Buddy.
