Sterling K. Brown and his wife Ryan Michelle Bathé always prioritize their family — even when they're sharing the screen.

Speaking with PEOPLE at Shipt's New York City pop-up on April 24, celebrating the brand's "No Order Is Ordinary" campaign, which Brown is the star of, the actor, 50, spoke about having his wife join him during season 2 of Paradise.

Praising his wife's performance, Brown shared that while they love working together, the two try to ensure that one of them is always home with their kids while the other is working.

"I always try to make it so that, okay, when Ryan's at work, I get a chance to be at home with the kids," Brown, who didn't share any scenes with his wife in season 2, explained. "I'm at work, she's at home with the kids."

"It makes sense," he added.

Brown and his wife Bathé share sons Amaré, 10, and Andrew, 14.

This past February, the This Is Us alum appeared on the Armchair Expert podcast and spoke with host Dax Shepard about his choice to share his sons' faces in public. Shepard, who doesn't share photos of his kids' faces, explained that his top priority is "safety," adding that he wants to allow them to also "be anonymous and make mistakes."

After hearing Shepard's response, Brown agreed, sharing that prioritizing the safety of his two boys is exactly why he makes the decision to share pictures of them on social media.

"Your children are obviously White. My children are Black. I feel like the more I put them on social, the safer they are," the actor said. "Any proximity that Black boys can have to some sort of celebrity or access or ... status [or] leverage. I'm trying to make sure that they make it home."

He also opened up about his no photo policy when he's outside spending time with his family.

"If I am out with Ryan and the boys, we have a policy of no pictures. And the policy is because they deserve to have a regular night out. It's their time," Brown shared. "Because Ry and I have a certain amount of spotlight or whatnot, doesn't mean that they should receive less of us."

In September 2024, Bathé and Brown spoke with PEOPLE about a few parenting rules they set in place before welcoming their two sons — and the couple of times the parents broke them.

"There's this idea I think that both of us agree on, most of the time, is that they're not to be molded into versions of us. That they kind of are who they are when they come to you," Brown shared with PEOPLE. "And we're just trying to shepherd them to become the best version of who they already are, right?"

The proud dad then shared when his wife strayed away from this idea. "Ryan tried to make [our son] into a dancer for a hot second. He's a very good dancer, a very good dancer," he said. "And he looked around in ballet class, and he's like, 'I'm the only dude. I'm out.'"
