Victor Willis, who was a co-founder and lead singer of Village People that gave the world so many hits including Y.M.C.A., Macho Man and In the Navy, died at the age of 74 on Tuesday.

What was the cause of death? According to a statement on the Village People Facebook page: "Victor passed on Tuesday June 30, 2026 of a short but aggressive illness. Privacy is requested."

His wife Karen-Huff Willis also confirmed his passing on his official Facebook page.

In a group full of costumed bandmates, he was the police officer or member of the Navy. But he left the group in 1980 over legal issues involving the songs he co-wrote. But he came back in 2017 after a settlement.
